Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — Mount Ibu in Halmahera Barat, North Maluku, continues to erupt as of this morning, Friday, August 23, 2024, at 8:08 AM WIT. During the eruption, the volcano emitted an ash column reaching 600 meters above the summit.
According to Axl Roeroe, a Volcano Observatory Officer, the eruption on Friday morning resulted in an ash column observed to be approximately 600 meters above the summit, or about 1,925 meters above sea level.

Roeroe reported that the ash column appeared gray and thick, drifting toward the northwest. The eruption was recorded by seismographs with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and lasted 71 seconds.
Residents in the vicinity of Mount Ibu, as well as visitors and tourists, are advised to avoid activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the volcano and a 7-kilometer sector extending northward from the active crater.
“In the event of ashfall, people working outside are advised to wear masks and protective eyewear to shield their nose, mouth, and eyes,” Roeroe recommended.
