Jakarta, Indonesia Senitnel — Several countries have issued travel warning for their citizens in Indonesia following a wave of demonstrations in major cities. The protests, which have disrupted traffic and raised security concerns, are expected to continue in the coming days.
According to multiple sources, the following countries have warned their nationals to remain cautious while in Indonesia.
Australia
Australia has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for its citizens in Indonesia, urging them to exercise increased caution amid ongoing mass demonstrations.
According to the government’s official Smart Traveller website, the protests are taking place in major cities, have the potential to turn violent and cause property damage.
“Large demonstrations that may escalate into violence and property damage are taking place in major cities, including Denpasar, Bali, causing disruptions and affecting local traffic,” the government’s Smart Traveller site said Monday (Sept. 1, 2025).
United States
The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Indonesia issued a warning on Saturday (Aug. 30), advising Americans to avoid protest sites and remain alert.
“U.S. citizens should stay vigilant in tourist areas and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive emergency updates,” the statement said.
Canada
Canada followed on Sunday (Aug. 31), urging its citizens in Jakarta to steer clear of protests, anticipate road closures, comply with local authorities, and monitor local media for updates.

Malaysia
Malaysia’s embassy in Jakarta released an advisory on Friday (Aug. 29), calling on its nationals living or traveling in Indonesia to remain cautious and monitor developments closely.
“The Embassy advises Malaysians residing in Jakarta or visiting for tourism, business, or other purposes to stay updated on protest sites through local authorities and media,” it said in a post on its official Instagram.
Singapore
Singapore also issued a travel notice on Saturday (Aug. 30), urging its citizens in Indonesia to avoid protest areas and large gatherings.
“Remain vigilant, follow local news, and heed the instructions of authorities,” the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta wrote on Instagram. Citizens were also advised to complete the Foreign Ministry’s e-Registration before traveling.
Europe
Several European countries, including France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, issued similar advisories, warning their citizens to remain cautious and follow updates from local authorities as protests continue.
