Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — The Financial Transactions Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) has reported a staggering Rp 691.8 trillion in turnover from online gambling by Indonesian citizens. This revelation was made in a report issued on Friday, August 23, 2024.
The PPATK report details a dramatic increase in online gambling transactions from 2007 to July 2024. In 2017, turnover was recorded at Rp 2 trillion, but by January-July 2024, it had skyrocketed to Rp 174.5 trillion.
The most significant spike occurred between 2020 and 2021, with turnover jumping from Rp 15.7 trillion to Rp 57.9 trillion—an increase of 267%. Additionally, there was a notable rise from 2019 to 2020, with figures climbing 155% from Rp 15.7 trillion to Rp 57.9 trillion.
The highest turnover was seen in 2023, reaching Rp 327 trillion.
“These figures indicate a massive surge. In 2017, the turnover was only Rp 2 trillion. By 2020, it had increased to Rp 15 trillion, and by 2023, it had soared to Rp 327 trillion. This reflects a serious issue that needs to be addressed,” said Tuti Wahyuningsih, Deputy for Strategy and Cooperation at PPATK, as quoted from the FMB 9 YouTube channel on August 23, 2024.
