Bandung, IndonesiaSentinel.com — The World Catholic Leader, is set to visit Indonesia in September 2024 as part of the apostolic visits across the Asia-Pacific region. Pope Francis will attend several agenda for four days, from September 3 to September 6, 2024.
The preparations for Pope Francis’s visit have been since June 2024. Former Minister of Transportation, Ignasius Jonan, was appointed as the Chair of the Organizing Committee for the Pope’s visit to Indonesia. He collaborated with the Archbishop of Jakarta, the Vatican Ambassador to Indonesia, and the Chairman of the Indonesian Bishops’ Conference (KWI) to arrange the Pope’s agenda during his visit to the country.
Pope Francis’s visit to Indonesia will include several important agendas, ranging from a state meeting with President Joko Widodo to attending the religious grand mass at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK).
The Pope is scheduled to depart for Jakarta on September 2, 2024, from Rome and is expected to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang on September 3, 2024.
On September 4, the Pope agenda will start with attending a welcoming ceremony at the Merdeka Palace, followed by a meeting with President Joko Widodo, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, community leaders, and civil society representatives in the State Palace Hall.
That same day, Pope Francis will hold a private meeting with members of the Society of Jesus (SJ) at the Apostolic Nunciature, the Vatican Embassy in Jakarta. In the afternoon, he is scheduled to meet with bishops, priests, deacons, nuns, seminarians, and catechists at the Church of Mary Assumed into Heaven, the Jakarta Cathedral. He will also take the time to meet with youth from the Scholas Occurrentes at the Graha Pemuda Youth Center in Senayan.

On September 5, 2024, Pope Francis will participate in an interreligious meeting with several interfaith religious leaders at the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, followed by a meeting with beneficiaries of charitable organizations at the Indonesian Bishops’ Conference (KWI) headquarters.
The highlight of Pope Francis agenda will be the grand mass at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta, which is expected to be attended by tens of thousands of Catholics. The mass will begin at 5:00 PM local time and will last for approximately 1.5 hours.
Pope Francis will depart Indonesia on September 6, 2024, to continue his apostolic journey to Papua New Guinea.
