Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — Pope Francis, the leader of the global Catholic Church, is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia today, Tuesday (September 3, 2024), as part of his apostolic journey. During his visit, Pope Francis will be using a civilian vehicle.
“The vehicle that His Holiness will be using is a Toyota Kijang Zennix,” said Ignatius Jonan, Chairman of the Papal Visit Committee, as quoted on Tuesday.
In addition to the civilian car, Pope Francis is also set to use a tactical vehicle, the Maung, manufactured by PT Pindad. The Maung will be utilized during a grand mass event on Thursday, September 5, 2024, where the Pope will greet the public.
“The Maung, produced by Pindad, is the vehicle that will be used for inspecting and greeting the faithful during the mass at GBK [Gelora Bung Karno Stadium],” Jonan explained.
Jonan did not provide details about the security arrangements for the Pope’s visit, which includes using only a civilian vehicle. He stated that security would be managed by the Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres).
Additionally, Pope Francis will not be staying in a hotel during his visit. Instead, he will spend the night at the Vatican Embassy. “The Pope will stay at the Vatican Embassy, not in a hotel,” Jonan concluded.
