Bandung, IndonesiaSentinel.com — The Leader of the World Catholic Church, Pope Francis, visit to Indonesia sets an example for leaders to live a simple life. Pope Francis, who will arrive in Indonesia on Tuesday (3/9) afternoon, took off from the Vatican, Rome, Italy, yesterday evening using a commercial plane.
Pope Francis, who is known to be progressive, is known for his humble attitude and his dislike of luxury. The Pope chose to flew on his apostolic visit without boarding a private jet. Pope Francis boards a commercial airplane from Alitalia, a former Italian international airplane taken over by ITA Airways.
Upon arrival at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, he also asked to be picked up by a regular civilian vehicle. He also chose to stay at the Vatican Embassy Complex in Jakarta, not in a luxurious hotel.
The Chairman of the Committee for Pope Francis’ Visit to Indonesia, Ignasius Jonan, said that Pope Francis will not stay at a hotel, he will instead stay at the Vatican Embassy.
“The Pope will stay at the Vatican Embassy, so he will not stay at a hotel,” he said at the Cathedral Church, Central Jakarta, Monday, September 2 2024.
The appointment of the Vatican Embassy as Pope Francis’ overnight stay in Indonesia is actually not too surprising. The Pope almost always chooses the Vatican Embassy to stay whenever he makes a visit abroad.
Recently, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP), Haedar Nashir, appraised that Pope Francis’ attitude in coming to Indonesia by commercial plane and not staying in a starred hotel sets as an example for national and global leaders.
“Pope Francis was willing to visit Indonesia by commercial plane and travel a very long distance and choose not to stay in a starred hotel. This shows an example that could be a meaningful inspiration for all leaders at the national and global levels,” said Haedar, Tuesday, September 3 2024.
