Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Friday laid out eight national priority programs for 2026, backed by a budget of Rp3,786.5 trillion ($240 billion), as part of his administration’s push to strengthen food security, energy resilience, education, and defense.
Prabowo made the remarks during his state address presenting the draft 2026 national budget bill.
“The state budget is an instrument to build a strong, self-reliant, and prosperous economy. It must serve the greatest welfare of the Indonesian people,” Prabowo said before parliament in Jakarta, Friday (August 15).
In his speech, he outlined eight priority programs, detailing the government’s focus areas for the coming year. The priorities include:
1. Food Security – The government aims for self-sufficiency in rice and corn by opening new farmland, distributing targeted fertilizer subsidies, and guaranteeing minimum purchase prices.
Overall, the government plans to allocate 164.4 trillion rupiah (about $10.5 billion) in 2026 to strengthen national food security.
2. Energy Resilience – The government prioritizing the Energy resilience, carried out by boosting oil and gas production. The state budget allocated to support energy security including subsidies, tax incentives, development of renewable energy, and rural electrification.
In total, the government plans to allocate 402.4 trillion rupiah ($25.6 billion) in fiscal support for 2026.
3. Free Nutritious Meals Program – The government aims to reach 82.9 million students, pregnant women, and young children with improved nutritional intake through Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) established across the country.
For 2026, it plans to allocate 335 trillion rupiah ($21.3 billion) to the nutrition program.
4. Quality Education – The government will allocate about 20% of the 2026 state budget, or roughly 757.8 trillion rupiah ($48.2 billion), to strengthen the education sector.
The funds will cover scholarships through the Indonesia Pintar program for 21.1 million students and college aid through the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) for 1.2 million university students.
The government will also allocating Rp150.1 trillion for upgrading schools and campus facilities. An additional Rp178.7 trillion will be directed toward improving the skills and welfare of teachers and lecturers, including professional allowances for non-civil servant teachers and regional civil servant educators.
5. Healthcare – The government will allocate Rp244 trillion in 2026 to expand access to free health checkups, revitalize hospitals, combat stunting and tuberculosis, and continue covering health insurance premiums for nearly 97 million low-income citizens.

6. Merah Putih Cooperatives – Around 80,000 village cooperatives have been set up to ease access to food, logistics, fertilizer, and financial services, supported by low-interest credit through state-owned banks.
7. Defense Strengthening – The government plans to allocate 335.25 trillion rupiah to bolster military capabilities.
8. Investment and Trade Acceleration – Through state-owned Danantara Indonesia and private partnerships, government will push about $38 billion in investments across mining, agriculture, fisheries, coal downstreaming, and renewable energy to secure a stronger role in global supply chains.
Prabowo said the programs are designed to balance immediate social needs with long-term structural reforms to make Indonesia more competitive and resilient in the face of global challenges.
