Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (February 25, 2025). Shoigu’s visit to Indonesia is part of a bilateral meeting agenda.
According to Kompas, Sergei Shoigu arrived at Merdeka Palace at 12:40 PM local time and was greeted by Prabowo at the entrance of the credential room. Both officials were accompanied by their respective delegations.
The Indonesian delegation accompanying Prabowo included Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Chief Herindra, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Major Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Following the welcome ceremony, Prabowo and Shoigu proceeded to the President’s office for bilateral discussions. Shoigu’s meeting with President Prabowo in Jakarta is part of his working visit to Indonesia, focusing on security and defense cooperation.
Shoigu’s Visit
Earlier, Presidential Secretariat Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media Yusuf Permana announced Shoigu’s planned visit to the Presidential Palace on Tuesday.
“This afternoon at Merdeka Palace, President Prabowo will receive His Excellency Mr. Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, at approximately 12:30 PM,” Permana said in Jakarta, as reported by Antara.
According to the Russian Security Council’s press office, Sergei Shoigu was reportedly on a working tour of Indonesia and Malaysia, scheduled to run until February 28, 2025.
Shoigu will discuss key issues in bilateral relations between Russia, Indonesia, and Malaysia during his visit. Talks will focus on security and defense cooperation, as well as potential collaboration in other areas of mutual interest.

Sergei Shoigu Political Role
Sergei Shoigu has served as Russia’s Security Council Secretary since May 13, 2024. Prior to that, he was Russia’s Minister of Defense from 2012 to 2024.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow has faced Western sanctions from nations supporting Kyiv. In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin has intensified efforts to strengthen ties with Asian nations, including Indonesia.
