Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has secured $8.5 billion in investment commitments, approximately Rp135.3 trillion during his visit to the United Kingdom. The commitments came from prominent British business leaders in the CEO Roundtable Forum in London.

President Prabowo attended the CEO Roundtable Forum held at Lancaster House in London on Thursday, November 21, 2024. The event brought together President Prabowo and 19 leaders of major British companies to discuss strategic investment opportunities in Indonesia.

“I just met with 19 key business leaders, and they have committed $8.5 billion. This reflects their optimism about our economy,” Prabowo said in London on Thursday, November 21.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, who participated in the forum, highlighted the keen interest of British CEOs in Indonesia’s priority sectors, including energy transition, infrastructure, education, and healthcare. She emphasized that one of the focus was on enhancing the quality of education, particularly in STEM fields and healthcare.

“They wanted to understand the policy direction and the President’s commitment to investment. Many were positively surprised to hear directly from the President about his priorities and his dedication to a clean and efficient government, which was highly appreciated,” Sri Mulyani stated.

The forum marked a pivotal moment for Indonesia’s government to underscore its commitment to fostering investment and economic growth. With the investment commitments already secured, the event served as a strategic step to strengthen Indonesia-UK economic ties and pave the way for broader collaboration across various sectors.

Record Investment Deals Across Multiple Countries

With this latest success, President Prabowo has secured a total of $18.5 billion, or roughly Rp294.6 trillion, in investments during his recent international visits. This includes $7 billion from British Petroleum (BP), $1.5 billion from the CEO Forum, and $10 billion from Chinese companies.

“I believe this demonstrates global confidence in Indonesia’s economy. A clean government and strong commitment to reforms are highly valued,” President Prabowo added.

Diplomatic Meetings in the UK

During his state visit to the UK, President Prabowo held a private meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on Thursday morning, November 21.

He also met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, where the two leaders discussed a range of issues, including economic cooperation, fisheries, education, healthcare, and defense.

According to a joint statement on the new Indonesia-UK strategic partnership, both nations have agreed to strengthen and revitalize their relationship through a deeper Strategic Partnership in the years ahead.

Both nations also emphasized climate action, agreeing to establish a high-level policy dialogue on carbon pricing to support Indonesia’s carbon financing market and green transition.

Global Diplomatic Tour

President Prabowo’s visit to the UK is part of a broader international diplomatic effort. In recent days, he has traveled to China and the United States for meetings with their respective leaders.

President Prabowo also attended the G20 Summit in Brazil and the APEC Summit in Peru. Before returning to Indonesia, President Prabowo is set to visit the United Arab Emirates.
