Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — After a record-breaking first season, the global sensation Squid Game is returning for Season 2. A nearly two-minute teaser released by Netflix on YouTube on Friday, November 1, hints at Seong Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) decision to re-enter the deadly game after surviving the horrors of Season 1.
In 2021, Squid Game set records as Netflix’s most-watched series across 94 countries and won multiple Emmy Awards. Directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, who also helmed the first season, Squid Game Season 2 promises even higher stakes in the life-or-death games that captivated audiences worldwide.
Following intense fan anticipation, Hwang began developing the follow-up story in 2022. Now, after two years in production, the Season 2 is ready to launch, with a plot expected to be as heart-pounding as ever. Lead character Seong Gi-hun, Player 456, played by Lee Jung-jae, returns in the game’s iconic green tracksuit, seemingly prepared to confront new challenges.
This time, however, Seong Gi-hun appears to have a different purpose. In the teaser, he warns new contestants, revealing his past experience and urging them to leave the game for their safety. Alongside Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-joon returns as Hwang Jun-ho, whose apparent survival after being shot and falling off a cliff in Season 1 has sparked fresh speculation about his role in the ongoing storyline.
Squid Game Season 2 also introduces a lineup of new cast members, including Im Siwan, Kang Ha-neul, former IZ*ONE member Jo Yu-ri, Park Sung-hoon, T.O.P (formerly of BIGBANG), as well as Lee Jin-wook and Park Gyu-young.
Fans are eager to learn the fate of Seong Gi-hun, Hwang Jun-ho, and the new players as they face the series’ infamous high-stakes challenges. Squid Game Season 2, debuting on Netflix on December 26, 2024, is set to bring back familiar faces along with fresh competitors, delivering new thrills for viewers worldwide.
