Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The inauguration of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as President and Vice President of Indonesia has generated buzz on social media, with the hashtag Rp1 going viral.
Netizens are discussing a special promotion where the fare for public transportation in Jakarta has been reduced to just Rp 1 (about $0.00006) for the day. As of October 20, 2024, there have been around 375,000 posts using the hashtag #Rp1 on X, formerly known as Twitter.
One of the most popular posts came from the official KAI Commuter Line account, announcing the one-day-only Rp 1 fare for Commuter Line rides.
The post read, “#RekanCommuters enjoy affordable trips on Commuter Line! Prepare a balance of at least Rp 5,000 to enjoy the Rp 1 fare on Sunday, October 20, 2024.”
The post also advised passengers to avoid overcrowded stations near the presidential inauguration celebration, such as Sudirman Baru, Juanda, Tanah Abang, and others.
Many netizens shared their excitement about using the special fare in the greater Jakarta area. One user commented,
“Celebrating the inauguration of Prabowo and Gibran, today’s Commuter Line ride is just Rp 1!” Others humorously suggested extending the promotion, with one post saying, “Why not make it last for a month? I’d even pay Rp 1,000 as long as it’s for a month.”
However, some expressed concerns about potential overcrowding. One netizen canceled their plans, stating, “I was going to go to Cibinong today, but after hearing about the Rp 1 fare, I changed my mind… Can’t imagine how packed it’ll be.”
In celebration of the inauguration, the Jakarta provincial government also introduced the Rp 1 fare on other public transport services, including MRT, TransJakarta, and LRT.

The fare applies to these services throughout the day, while other services such as Mikrotrans and TransJakarta Cares remain free as usual under Jakarta’s 2018 regulations.
The festivities have led to the cancellation of the weekly Car-Free Day, replaced by public entertainment and celebrations along Jenderal Sudirman and Thamrin streets. The event, supported by state-owned enterprises and local businesses, features 13 stages offering various performances for the public. Parking areas have been designated for those attending the celebrations in the heart of Jakarta.
