Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — A viral video on social media shows a container truck driving against traffic, hitting multiple vehicles and pedestrians on a busy main road in Tangerang, Indonesia. The incident, which reportedly occurred on October 31, 2024, around 4:00 p.m. local time, sparked a chase as several motorcyclists and rideshare drivers attempted to stop the reckless truck.
The truck, speeding and driving against the flow of traffic on Hasyim Asyari Street, was heading towards central Tangerang amidst rush-hour congestion. The chaotic scene left a path of damage, with seven reported injuries but no fatalities. The injured included four motorcyclists, a driver, a pedestrian, and the truck driver himself.
The injured individuals were treated at nearby hospitals, including EMC and Sari Asih Cipondoh hospitals, while the truck driver received emergency care at the Tangerang District Hospital.
Tangerang Metro Police Chief Kombes Zain Dwi Nugroho confirmed the incident, stating, “No fatalities have been reported so far. However, seven people sustained injuries.” Alongside personal injuries, material damage was extensive, with ten cars and six motorcycles affected by the truck’s rampage.
The truck driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained serious head injuries and required intensive care. According to Tangerang District Hospital spokesperson Dr. Hilwani, the driver experienced decreased consciousness and underwent intensive observation, though he remains communicative.
Reports suggest that a frustrated crowd attempted to stop the truck’s erratic path. The crowd pursued the vehicle for nearly 11 kilometers, eventually surrounding it when it became stuck at the city’s Adipura Monument.

An angry crowd began to attack the vehicle and the driver, reportedly dousing the truck in gasoline. Police, however, arrived in time to deescalate the situation and prevent further violence.
As investigations continue, authorities are assessing possible causes, including the driver’s condition at the time of the incident, to understand what led to the dangerous events.
