Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — As the calendar flips to January 1, 2025, the world will officially welcome Generation Beta, marking the end of Generation Alpha. Generation Beta, born between 2025 and 2039, becomes the seventh generational cohort since the turn of the 20th century.
The emergence of Generation Beta in 2025 will mark the conclusion of its predecessor, Generation Alpha. According to a report by USA Today, Generation Alpha refers to individuals born between 2010 and 2024. The term was introduced by social analyst and demographer Mark McCrindle.
Preceding Generation Alpha is Generation Z, or Gen Z, comprising those born between 1997 and 2009.
Generational labels are typically defined by specific birth periods characterized by shared social, cultural, and historical traits. These generational divides are often shaped by major events, technological advancements, and social transformations.
These experiences influence the behavior, values, and attitudes that distinguish one generation from another.
Defining Generation Beta
Generation Beta is poised to embrace a world deeply intertwined with artificial intelligence and advanced technology. McCrindle predicts this cohort will integrate technology seamlessly into daily life and exhibit a high level of acceptance toward diversity.
It will be the first time, a generation will exist entirely within the 21st century. Reports from the United Nations International School of Hanoi suggest Generation Beta will engage with AI-generated simulations and automated interactions in online spaces, making such technology an integral part of their lives.
Expected to mature in an environment defined by curiosity and inclusivity, Generation Beta is likely to foster collaboration among diverse groups. While some predictions are based on current trends, unforeseen developments may redefine this generation’s identity as they navigate a rapidly evolving world.
Comparing Generations: Alpha, Z, and Beta
While Generation Alpha is largely made up of children of millennials, they are known for their strong family bonds, attributed to values passed down by previous generations. This generation thrives in a digital-first environment, heavily influenced by the technology-driven culture into which they were born.
In contrast, Generation Z views technology not just as a tool but often as an escape. Shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, Gen Z learned the fragility of global economies and adopted more cautious financial and social approaches.
Despite their tech-savvy nature, Gen Z faces challenges, such as a preference for digital interactions over face-to-face communication, which can sometimes hinder their social connectivity.

Generation Beta, however, stands apart as the first group to grow up in a world where AI and digital interactions are the norm, not novelties. This reality will likely shape their collective behavior, making them distinct from their predecessors.
As the world transitions to this new generational era, Generation Beta’s unique challenges and opportunities will redefine societal norms. From their relationship with technology to their embrace of diversity, this cohort promises to leave an indelible mark on the 21st century.
