Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — Two earthquakes struck different regions of Indonesia on Saturday, September 14, 2024, with varying magnitudes, hitting Bali and Lampung.

The first quake, with a magnitude of 4.6, jolted areas southeast of Kuta Selatan in Bali, while the second, a magnitude 3.5 tremor, shook Pesisir Barat in Lampung Province.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the Bali earthquake occurred at 8:31 a.m. local time.

The quake’s epicenter was located at 9.10 degrees south latitude and 115.57 degrees east longitude, approximately 51 kilometers southeast of Kuta Selatan, with a depth of 72 kilometers.

No immediate reports of damage or casualties have surfaced following the quake. However, BMKG emphasized that the data is preliminary and may change as more information becomes available.

“This data prioritizes speed, and the results may be updated as more comprehensive data is processed,” BMKG stated in its release.

Lampung Earthquake

Earlier in the day, at 5:43 a.m., a 3.5 magnitude earthquake struck Pesisir Barat in Lampung Province. BMKG pinpointed the epicenter roughly 110 kilometers southwest of Pesisir Barat, with the tremor originating at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Initial reports from BMKG were shared on the agency’s social media platform X, @infoBMKG, but detailed assessments of damage or impact have yet to be released.

As with the Bali quake, officials noted that initial reports focus on rapid dissemination of information and may be subject to revision as further data is collected.

While neither earthquake has thus far resulted in significant damage or injuries, these events serve as a reminder of Indonesia’s vulnerability to seismic activity.

As one of the most seismically active regions in the world, the country regularly experiences earthquakes, and authorities continue to monitor for potential aftershocks or related hazards.

BMKG encourages residents in affected areas to stay alert and follow official updates as more accurate information becomes available.
