Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, has released its latest ranking of countries with the most World Heritage Sites, highlighting global efforts to preserve sites across the world.
Italy remains at the top with 60 recognized sites, showcasing its vast historical and cultural legacy. The country’s renowned heritage includes the historic centers of Rome, Florence, and Venice, alongside lesser-known treasures like the Val d’Orcia and the ancient rock dwellings of Matera.
China follows closely with 59 sites, reflecting its deep architectural and cultural heritage. From the Great Wall to the picturesque Wulingyuan mountains, China’s UNESCO-listed sites encompass both architectural marvels and natural wonders.
Germany ranks third with 54 sites, offering a diverse range of historical and natural landmarks, including the medieval city of Bamberg and the ecologically significant Wadden Sea. France and Spain round out the top five, with 53 and 50 sites respectively, underscoring Europe’s rich cultural landscape.
India leads South Asia with 43 sites, including the recently designated Ramappa Temple and Dholavira, reaffirming its commitment to heritage conservation. Other notable countries on the list include Mexico (35 sites), the United Kingdom (35 sites), Russia (32 sites), and Iran (28 sites).
