Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — A 22-year-old university student from Universitas Trunojoyo Madura (UTM), identified as EJ, tragically lost her life after being assaulted and set on fire by her boyfriend, MMA (21), in Bangkalan, Madura, East Java. The victim’s body underwent an autopsy, revealing harrowing details about the crime.
According to forensic findings, EJ was three months pregnant at the time of her death. Further examination uncovered severe injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon to her head and neck. Authorities believe the victim was brutally attacked before being set on fire by the suspect.
Bangkalan Police Chief, AKBP Febri Isman, confirmed that MMA, the victim’s boyfriend, has been named the prime suspect in the murder case.
“The suspect has confessed. One of the victim’s belongings was found as evidence,” stated Febri during a press briefing.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect felt pressured after learning about the victim’s pregnancy. The couple reportedly argued prior to the incident, with EJ allegedly threatening to stage a protest at MMA’s university if he refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy.
“An argument escalated before the incident. The victim reportedly threatened to publicly expose the situation, which appears to have driven the suspect to commit the crime,” Febri added.
