Wamildan Tsani Biography, the New Garuda Indonesia President Director

Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has officially appointed Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan as its new President Director during the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024. Held at the Garuda Indonesia Management Building Auditorium, the meeting confirmed Wamildan’s succession from Irfan Setiaputra, who served as CEO since January 2020.

In his inaugural statement, Wamildan expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by President Prabowo Subianto and pledged to collaborate with the airline’s management and employees to enhance the company’s performance.

“President Prabowo has emphasized the importance of Garuda Indonesia, directing us to continue the recovery process of this national airline to restore its pride,” Wamildan stated.

Who Is Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan?

Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan, born in Wamena in 1981, brings extensive experience in the aviation industry. Prior to joining Garuda Indonesia, he served as Acting CEO of PT Lion Air since 2022, steering the airline toward becoming one of Southeast Asia’s largest carriers.

From 2013, he worked with PT Batik Air Indonesia as Director of Safety, Security, and Quality, where he focused on improving service standards and ensuring passenger safety.

Not just a seasoned executive, Wamildan is also a trained pilot. His aviation journey began in the Indonesian Air Force in 2003, where he piloted Boeing 737-200 patrol aircraft at Air Squadron 5, Sultan Hasanuddin Air Base, Makassar. Additionally, he served as a Flying Instructor at Adisucipto Air Base, Yogyakarta.

Wamildan is an alumnus of SMA Taruna Nusantara (Class of 1998) and the Indonesian Air Force Academy. He has completed advanced training programs, including the Aviation Medicine Course (Singapore Air Force), Instructor Course (Royal Australian Air Force), and Squadron Officer School (U.S. Air Force).

Garuda Indonesia’s EGMS also established a new lineup for its Board of Commissioners and Directors, marking a fresh chapter for the airline:

With this revamped leadership, Garuda Indonesia aims to improve its operational efficiency, service quality, and competitive standing in the aviation sector.
