Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) reported a significant increase in ticket sales for its high-speed rail service, Whoosh, during the long holiday weekend from January 24 to January 29, 2025. A total of 105,000 tickets were sold, driven by public holidays, including Isra Miraj on Monday, January 27, and Lunar New Year on Wednesday, January 29.

During the initial three days of the holiday period, January 24-26, approximately 66,000 passengers used the Whoosh service, with daily ridership averaging 22,000 passengers, a 29% increase compared to the usual daily average of 17,000 passengers.

According to KCIC’s General Manager for Corporate Secretary, Eva Chairunisa, Sunday (January 26) marked the busiest travel day, with a record 22,800 passengers boarding Whoosh trains.

Despite being the fourth day of the holiday period, passenger enthusiasm for Whoosh remains high. “The majority of passengers traveling from Jakarta, about 80%, are using the Halim–Padalarang route, while the remaining passengers are traveling to destinations such as Halim–Tegalluar Summarecon and Halim–Karawang,” Eva added.

Whoosh Growing Popularity

With diverse travel schedules and seamless intermodal integration, KCIC aims to enhance convenience for passengers during the extended holiday period.

“This long holiday weekend serves as an important opportunity for Whoosh to deliver exceptional service. A 29% increase in passenger numbers reflects growing public trust in Whoosh as a fast and reliable transportation option,” Eva concluded.

KCIC is encouraging passengers continuing their journey from Padalarang to Bandung to take advantage of the Feeder Train service, which has been scheduled to align with Whoosh’s arrivals to minimize waiting times.
