Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — A 14-year-old boy, identified as MAS, allegedly stabbed his family members in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, in the early hours of Saturday, November 30. The attack left his father and grandmother dead and his mother critically injured in the stabbing incident.

Cilandak Police Chief Commissioner Febriman Sarlase confirmed the incident. “Today, there was a murder carried out by someone who is suspected to be the son of the victims,” he said.

According to Kompas, The attack occurred at the family’s home in the Bona Indah residential complex around 1 a.m. MAS reportedly used a kitchen knife to stab his family members as they slept.

Meanwhile, His mother, AP (40), survived the attack but sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Fatmawati Hospital. “The mother is in critical condition but has been transported to Fatmawati Hospital for treatment,” said Febriman.

MAS was apprehended shortly after the attack and is currently being questioned at the Cilandak Police Station. Authorities secured a kitchen knife believed to have been used in the stabbing incident.

Suspects Detention

South Jakarta Metro Police spokesperson, AKP Nurma Dewi, stated that authorities have interviewed a key witness in the stabbing incident—a security guard from the residential complex where the incident occurred.

According to Nurma, the guard was patrolling the area when he noticed the suspect, MAS, walking suspiciously and attempting to flee after the attack. The guard managed to detain the teenager.

“The suspect was first spotted walking through the neighborhood during the guard’s patrol. When called, he ran, which raised suspicion. The guard pursued and apprehended him,” Nurma explained.

After the arrest, MAS was handed over to the police, who had arrived at the scene. He was then taken to the Cilandak Police Station for further questioning.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, and police are conducting a thorough investigation. Given MAS’s age, legal proceedings will be handled by the Child and Women’s Protection Unit (PPA).
