Bali, Indonesia Sentinel – Heavy rains and strong winds have wreaked havoc at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, causing flight cancellations, diversions, and significant delays. Airport authorities confirmed that at least 15 flights were affected between February 10-12, 2025, as unpredictable weather continued to challenge air travel in the popular tourist destination.

According to General Manager Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, February 10 saw the worst impact, with 11 flights disrupted. Domestic routes were particularly affected, with numerous delays and cancellations.

Flights Delayed, Diverted, and Canceled

Among the domestic flights that faced delays were:

  • Super Air Jet (Denpasar-Jakarta)
  • Lion Air (Denpasar-Kupang, Denpasar-Surabaya, Denpasar-Kuala Namu)

Meanwhile, two international flights were unable to land at Ngurah Rai Airport and were forced to go around before eventually returning to their departure points. These included:

  • IndiGo Airlines (Bengaluru-Denpasar)
  • AirAsia (Hong Kong-Denpasar)

Adding to the chaos, one Wings Air flight (Denpasar-Tambolaka) was completely canceled due to unsafe landing conditions.

On February 11, extreme weather continued to disrupt travel, affecting four additional flights:

  • One delay: Wings Air (Denpasar-Lombok)
  • Two diversions: Lion Air’s Semarang-Denpasar flight was rerouted to Surabaya, and a charter flight from Bundi to Denpasar was diverted to Lombok.
  • One go-around: AirAsia’s Jakarta-Denpasar flight had to abort its landing attempt.

By February 12, authorities were still assessing the full extent of additional disruptions as stormy weather persisted across the island.

Airport Authorities Urge Passengers to Stay Alert

With uncertain weather conditions posing a challenge to flight operations, passengers are advised to stay updated on their flight schedules and remain in close communication with their airlines.

“We have been coordinating with all airlines to ensure that flight operations remain as safe and smooth as possible,” said Syaugi. “Our priority is to minimize disruptions while ensuring that passengers affected by the weather receive the necessary support.”

Travelers have also been urged to arrive at the airport well ahead of their scheduled departures and check real-time updates with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.

Extreme Weather Threatens Bali’s Tourism and Transport

Bali’s rainy season typically brings heavy downpours and occasional strong winds, but the intensity of the recent storms has raised concerns among tourism operators and transportation officials.

With Bali serving as one of Southeast Asia’s most popular travel hubs, weather-related disruptions can have a ripple effect on both domestic and international travel. Airlines operating in and out of Bali often face challenges adjusting flight schedules, particularly when extreme weather forces sudden changes.

As the stormy conditions continue, passengers are strongly advised to check weather forecasts and airline notifications to minimize inconvenience.

Airport officials remain on high alert and are working closely with Indonesia’s meteorological agency to anticipate further disruptions in the coming days.

For now, Bali’s travelers must brace for potential delays and remain flexible as they navigate the impacts of extreme weather on their journeys.
