Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced that the Indonesian government will provide 10% airplane ticket discount on domestic flight during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr holiday season.
The annual homecoming tradition, known as “mudik,” sees millions of Indonesians traveling to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with family. To support this tradition and stimulate the economy, the government will offer financial incentives, including airfare discounts.
“The mechanism will be similar to the discounts provided during the Christmas and New Year holidays, the discount will apply to all domestic airlines,” Airlangga said, as reported by CNN Indonesia.
Two-Week Discount Period
The 10% airfare discount will be available for two weeks, one week before and one week after Eid al-Fitr, which is expected to fall at the end of March 2025. “The discount will be in effect for a two-week period, from the week leading up to Eid until the week after,” Airlangga confirmed.
The implementation of the 2025 Eid holiday airplane ticket discount will apply to all domestic flight routes and be available across all airlines. However, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that the policy is still under discussion and will be finalized at a later stage.
He added that this initiative is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s economic stimulus package for the 2025 Eid holiday period.
Transportation Minister Dudy Purwaghandi stated that the discount aims to assist travelers returning home for the holiday by making airfare more affordable. “We’re still reviewing it because the demand for Lebaran flights is quite high. We need to carefully calculate the numbers to ensure all parties are accommodated,” Dudy states as reported by CNBC Indonesia on Monday (February 17, 2025).
He added that the government is targeting an official announcement on the airplane ticket discount at least one month before Lebaran, or at the start of Ramadan, allowing both passengers and airlines to prepare accordingly.
Continuation of Previous Discount Program
This discount follows a similar initiative implemented during the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year holiday period, when domestic ticket prices were reduced for 16 days, from December 19, 2024, to January 3, 2025.
That initiative was part of President Prabowo’s directive to ease the financial burden of travel during peak holiday seasons. To facilitate a minimum 10% fare reduction without cutting value-added tax (VAT), airlines, state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, state energy firm PT Pertamina, and air navigation service provider AirNav Indonesia were involved in lowering costs related to fuel surcharges and other aviation fees at selected airports.
During the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year holiday period, passenger numbers at the 37 airports managed by PT Angkasa Pura (Persero) increased by 10% compared to the previous year, largely attributed to the airfare discount policy.
Toll Road Fee Discounts Under Consideration
In addition to airfare discounts, travelers opting for road travel may also benefit from reduced toll fees. Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo confirmed that discussions have begun on implementing toll road discounts for the 2025 Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr travel period, following President Prabowo’s directive.

The ministry has engaged with the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) and various toll road operators (BUJT) to determine the feasibility of the policy. “We are still reviewing the specifics, and no final decision has been made on the exact discount rate,” Dody said as reported by Bisnis.
Meanwhile, Subakti Syukur, President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk., Indonesia’s largest toll road operator, hinted that the toll fee discount could exceed 20% during the Eid travel season.
Toll road discounts have been implemented during past major holiday periods, such as Eid and Christmas-New Year, as a measure to ease traffic congestion and ensure smoother travel for motorists.
Economic Stimulus
President Prabowo Subianto has rolled out several policies aimed at boosting economic growth in the first quarter of 2025. Among these measures is the “Ramadan-Eid Holiday 2025 Stimulus,” which includes both airplane ticket and toll fee discounts to enhance consumer spending power and support nationwide travel during the holiday season.
