Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is set to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance weather forecasting in Indonesia.

BMKG’s Director of Public Meteorology, Andri Ramdhani, states that the agency has partnered with technology company Tomorrow Indonesia (PT Environmental Intelligence Indonesia/EII) to improve the accuracy and efficiency of its weather prediction services.

According to Andri, the collaboration covers key areas, including scientific and technical cooperation in meteorology, capacity-building for human resources, and the provision of meteorological data and supporting technologies.

“Our goal is to develop an AI-based predictive system that will improve the accuracy of meteorological information, particularly in public weather forecasting, maritime conditions, and aviation,” Andri stated in a press release as reported by Kumparan on Tuesday (February 26).

This collaboration follows plans for a feasibility study in partnership with Tomorrow Indonesia (PT Environmental Intelligence Indonesia). The study aims to enhance the accuracy and strengthen BMKG’s service system through strategic collaboration in Jakarta and West Java.

Enhancing Indonesia Weather Forecasting

Andri emphasized that providing specialized weather forecasting services for land and sea operations in Indonesia requires reliable infrastructure, skilled personnel, and continuous technological innovation.

“Through this partnership, we hope to create innovative solutions for meteorological data provision and services, enhancing operational efficiency across Indonesia,” he said.

This initiative aligns with Law No. 31 of 2009 on Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics, which mandates BMKG to deliver high-quality information services to the public.

Additionally, BMKG plays a crucial role in supporting sustainable development, climate change mitigation, and disaster risk management, particularly in Indonesia.

The collaboration with Tomorrow Indonesia represents a strategic step in advancing meteorological services in the country. Andri noted that this initiative is part of Asta Cita, specifically Asta Cita’s eighth pillar, which underscores the importance of harmony between humanity, the environment, and culture.

The synergy between BMKG, experts, and technological advancements is a tangible step toward supporting Indonesia’s national development vision, aiming for a “Golden Indonesia 2045.”
