Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia’s Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority (TNBTS) will temporarily close access to the Mount Bromo area to honor the annual Yadnya Kasada ritual, a sacred ceremony observed by the local Tenggerese community.
The closure will take place from Tuesday, June 10, through Friday, June 13, 2025, and will remain in effect until midnight local time (WIB) on the final day.
Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, head of the TNBTS agency, said the decision was made following a coordination meeting held at the TNBTS office in Malang on Thursday, May 15.
Rudi explained that the Yadnya Kasada ceremony will be held on June 10 and 11, during which the national park will be open exclusively for community members participating in the ritual.
“Meanwhile On June 12 and 13, the area will be closed entirely for post-ceremony clean-up,” said Rudi.
The announcement serves as an official notice to the public, including tourists, travel operators, and other stakeholders, to respect the temporary closure and make the necessary adjustments to their plans.
“We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation,” Rudi added.

Yadnya Kasada is one of the most important religious ceremonies for the Tenggerese people, who live in the highlands surrounding Mount Bromo. The ritual involves offerings of agricultural produce such as vegetables, fruits, and livestock which are cast into the crater of Mount Bromo as a form of devotion and gratitude.
The ritual is held annually on the 14th or 15th day of the Hindu Tenggerese month of Kasada, typically falling in June or July during the full moon.
The Bromo Tengger Semeru National park’s temporary closure is aimed at preserving the solemnity of the event and allowing the Tenggerese community to carry out their spiritual traditions with reverence and privacy.
The TNBTS authority has also called on all parties to respect local traditions and customs, and to help preserve the natural beauty of the area.
