Central Java to Host International Kite Festival to Celebrate Province’s 80th Anniversary

Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — As part of the celebrations for Central Java 80th anniversary, an International Kite Festival is set to take flight in POJ City, Semarang, on August 23–24, 2025. The two-day event is expected to be attended by participants from 13 countries, offering not only visual spectacle but also a boost to tourism and the local economy.

The festival will feature both domestic and international kite flyers, bringing together teams from provinces across Indonesia, including Central Java, Yogyakarta, West Java, Jakarta, East Java, Bali, Lampung, Riau Islands, South Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan.

While the international participants including from countries such as India, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, and the Philippines. Organizers hope this diverse participation will foster a vibrant cultural exchange.

Governor Ahmad Luthfi voiced his full support for the festival during a briefing on Friday (August 1), underscoring the significance of the international event in marking the province’s founding on August 19.

Beyond kite displays, the festival will offer a variety of attractions, including cultural dance performances. The event will also showcases small and medium enterprises (SME) expo focused on export-ready products, a vibrant parade of decorative banners, aerospace demonstrations, and an international sport kite demonstrations.

Central Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman Harry Nuryanto Soediro described the upcoming festival as a comprehensive event designed to breathe new life into the province.

“We hope this brings fresh momentum to Central Java. We are working closely with the provincial Office of Youth, Sports, and Tourism (Disporapar) to ensure the event is executed successfully,” he said.

Meanwhile, Muhamad Masrofi, head of Central Java’s Disporapar, expressed confidence in the festival’s potential economic impact. “With international participants and a strong local showing, we’re optimistic this international event will boost Central Java’s economy,” he stated

With a crowd of 25,000 visitors were expected to come, the International Kite Festival is poised to become a highlight in Central Java’s anniversary celebrations, blending art, culture, and commerce into one colorful airborne celebration.
