Jakarta – Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita will visit Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China (PRC) in early July 2023. The Minister of Industry will visit the city in the Bamboo Curtain Country on July 3-6, 2023 to participate in a number of activities related to the development of industrial cooperation.

One of the activities that the Minister of Industry plans to attend is the China-ASEAN Forum on Emerging Industries 2023. “The activity also commemorates the 30th anniversary of the ASEAN-PRC Dialogue Relationship,” said the Minister of Industry before leaving for Shenzhen, Monday (3/7/2023).

In the forum, the Minister of Industry will represent the Government to talk about the role of Indonesia, which holds the chairmanship of ASEAN 2023, in realizing the three strategic drivers that have been launched for 2023. The three are recovery and rebuilding, optimizing the potential of the digital economy, and perpetuating sustainability in the economy for the welfare of future generations.

In the series of China-ASEAN Forum activities, the ministers of ASEAN countries will also visit the BYD automotive industry factory and Huawei Bantian Base. Indonesia opens opportunities for collaboration with various countries to realize the target of becoming a major industrial player in the electric vehicle ecosystem.

“This is also in line with the vision of realizing a greener and more sustainable ASEAN through active private sector involvement and with coordinated regional orchestration,” Agus explained.

The next agenda of the Minister of Industry is to hold a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC Mr. Jin Zhuanglong. During the meeting, the two ministers will discuss opportunities to increase Indonesia-PRC cooperation in the industrial sector.

China itself is the first export destination and source of non-oil and gas product imports for Indonesia, as well as the second largest source of investment for Indonesia in 2022. The main investments in 2022 from the country by sector are the basic metal industry, metal goods, not machinery and equipment, the food industry, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, the textile industry, and the wood industry.

“In the meeting with the Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China, we will discuss the possibility of cooperation in the field of electric vehicle (EV) development, renewable energy for green industry, industrial estates, as well as the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area agreement,” the Minister said.

The meeting is expected to enhance the well-established relationship between Indonesia and China. “We are very open to cooperation opportunities that can be carried out by Indonesia and the People’s Republic of China,” he concluded.
