Jakarta – Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga said that the young generation must be digitally savvy to capture export opportunities to the global market. This was said by Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry when opening the Export Online Business Training at the office of the Export and Trade Services Human Resources Training Center (PPEJP), Jakarta, Monday (15/7).

“The young generation must be digitally savvy to be able to capture export opportunities that are increasingly wide open to the global market. Mastery of digital technology can help the young generation to create and innovate so as to make Indonesian products increasingly recognized,” said Deputy Minister Jerry.

According to Jerry, the large number of young people who have the potential to master digital technology will be a significant boost to Indonesia’s economic growth in the future. This is in line with the Ministry of Trade’s efforts to continue organizing training to produce young people who contribute to Indonesia’s export and digital trade.

The value of electronic commerce or e-commerce transactions in 2023 reached Rp453.75 trillion. The value is predicted to grow 2.8 percent to Rp487 trillion in 2024 and grow 3.3 percent to Rp503 trillion in 2025.

Deputy Trade Minister Jerry said that the current business world needs a creative young generation. The export training organized is a concrete manifestation of the presence of the Ministry of Trade to increase the capacity of human resources (HR) in the field of exports, not only for business people, but for prospective entrepreneurs from among lecturers and students. In addition, the Ministry of Trade also has programs related to the development of export human resources, including marketing collaboration through digital platforms.

In addition, it also optimizes the existence of Indonesian trade representatives abroad, namely Trade Attaches and the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC).

“I hope that the younger generation will have the spirit to compete in the midst of fast-paced changes. The spirit of competition will be an asset to compete in the global arena,” said Deputy Trade Minister Jerry.

Based on data from the Ministry of Trade, the trade balance surplus trend has been maintained for 49 consecutive months from May 2020 to May 2024. Indonesia’s trade balance in May 2024 again recorded a surplus of USD 2.93 billion. Cumulatively, the trade balance from January to May 2024 was a surplus of USD 13.06 billion. Meanwhile, export performance in May 2024 was recorded at USD 22.33 billion or grew 13.82 percent. Non-oil and gas exports in the period reached USD 20.91 billion or increased by 14.46 percent (MoM).

“This is a good momentum for the national economy. So that we must maintain and improve the good trade performance. In the midst of global challenges and dynamics, the trade sector must be able to provide optimism and move as a generator of national economic recovery,” said Deputy Trade Minister Jerry.

Head of PPEJP Sugih Rahmansyah said, the Export Online Business Training is expected to increase the capacity of lecturers and students of the Kosgoro 1957 Institute of Business and Information (IBI) to prepare themselves to become globally competitive trade human resources.

“The ability and competence of trade human resources is currently an added value for students when they will enter the world of work and become provisions when starting a business. Students must have a strong commitment to compete and improve non-technical skills to face increasingly fierce competition. We hope that IBI Kosgoro 1957 can continue to collaborate with PPEJP to produce human resources who have competence in the export sector,” Sugih added.

The Export Online Business Training was attended by 50 participants consisting of lecturers and students of IBI Kosgoro 1957. Also present was IBI Kosgoro 1957 Rector Haswan Yunaz.
