Indonesia Ranked 50th in Paris Paralympics, Jokowi Gives IDR 6 Billion Bonus to Gold Medalist

Bandung, IndonesiaSentinel.com — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has awarded bonuses to Indonesian athletes who earned medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. In his speech, Jokowi praised the determination and achievements of the Indonesian contingent, which secured a total of 14 medals with 1 gold, 8 silver, and 5 bronze.

“I am extremely proud and happy because our national team has made history at this prestigious event,” Jokowi said during the ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

As a token of appreciation, Jokowi announced that the government has allocated substantial bonuses with IDR 6 billion (USD $390,000) for gold medalists, IDR 2.75 billion (USD $180,000) for silver medalists, and IDR 1.65 billion (USD $108,000) for bronze medalists.

Additionally, athletes who participated in the Paralympics but did not win medals will still receive a bonus of IDR 250 million (USD $16,000) as recognition of their efforts.

“Coaches and assistant coaches will also be rewarded for their dedication and hard work in nurturing these champions,” Jokowi added.

Jokowi emphasized that these achievements were not the result of instant success but rather the outcome of long-term talent development, early identification, and rigorous training. He hopes that the success of these athletes will inspire other Paralympic athletes to continue working hard and strive for greater accomplishments.

Ranked 50th in Paralympics

Indonesia secured an impressive 50th place in the final standings of the 2024 Paris Paralympics, winning 14 medals with 1 gold, 8 silver, and 5 bronze. This achievement surpassed the Indonesian contingent’s initial target of 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. During the ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, President Joko Widodo praised the athletes’ dedication and resilience, highlighting how they exceeded expectations

  3. Saptoyogo Purnomo (Athletics – Men’s 100m)
  4. Karisma Evi Tiarani (Athletics – Women’s 100m)
  5. Suryo Nugroho (Badminton – Men’s Singles)
  6. Qonitah Ikhtiar Syakuroh (Badminton – Women’s Singles SL3)
  7. Leani Ratri Oktila (Badminton – Women’s Singles SL4)
  8. Khalimatus Sadiyah/Fredy Setiawan (Badminton – Mixed Doubles)

Bronze Medals:

  1. Muhamad Syafa (Boccia – Men’s Singles)
  2. Gischa Zayana (Boccia – Women’s Singles)
  3. Fredy Setiawan (Badminton – Men’s Singles)
  4. Dheva Anrimusthi (Badminton – Men’s Singles SU5)
