Jakarta, IndoensiaSentinel.com — The Labubu plush toy, a colorful and quirky creation from PopMart, has recently taken the internet by storm. Introduced in 2015 by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, Labubu is a distinctive monster character known for its long ears, sharp teeth, and wide, cheerful smile.
This charming plush toy has not only gone viral but has also caught the attention of several top Indonesian designers.
According to Instagram account @mood.jakarta, designers including Sebastian Gunawan, Yogi Pratama, and Andreas Odang have collaborated to create exclusive outfits for the Labubu plush toy.
Gunawan’s design features a white bridal gown, Pratama has styled a fluffy outfit, and Odang has incorporated traditional Indonesian textiles into his creation.
The collaboration has generated mixed reactions online. Some users are taken aback by the high prices of Labubu plush toys, while others see it as a trendy fad.
One user shared their surprise, saying, “I knew about Labubu from my kid. I thought it would be 50-100k, but on Shopee, it’s over 700k… I was shocked.” Another commented, “I don’t understand what’s so special about it. Why is everyone so obsessed?”
PopMart explains that the Labubu plush toy is part of the “The Monsters” collection, which includes both benevolent and mischievous characters.
Despite its playful appearance, Labubu is known for its kind-hearted nature and willingness to help others.
The plush toy’s popularity surged further when celebrity Lalisa posted a photo of herself with a Labubu plush toy on Instagram.
