Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — The Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSBSI) has expressed concern over the recent Extraordinary National Congress (Munaslub) of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

KSBSI President Elly Rosita Silaban stated that the internal turmoil within Kadin could have adverse effects on labor groups and the broader Indonesian economy. As a key partner of Kadin, KSBSI believes that the current disruptions may hinder efforts to address economic issues and unemployment.

“KSBSI officially recognizes Arsjad Rasjid as the legitimate Chairman of Kadin Indonesia,” Elly asserted in Jakarta on Monday (August 16, 2024). “This recognition is in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 18 of 2022, which legally appoints Arsjad Rasjid as Kadin’s Chairman.”

Elly urged all parties to avoid politicizing Kadin, as this could complicate the ability of labor unions to engage in social dialogue. The ambiguity surrounding Kadin’s leadership, she argues, may obstruct efforts to resolve economic and workforce issues.

Under Arsjad Rasjid’s leadership, KSBSI highlights several positive developments in labor relations. Notably, Rasjid has overseen the establishment of a working group involving five major labor confederations and Kadin, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Additionally, Kadin Indonesia has collaborated with labor unions to launch the Kadin For Naker platform, among other initiatives aimed at benefiting workers.

Previously, three of Indonesia’s largest labor confederations—Confederation of Indonesian Workers (KSPSI), Indonesian Workers Confederation (KSPI), and KSBSI—have endorsed Kadin under Rasjid’s leadership as their official partner.

KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea emphasized that no one can legally challenge Rasjid’s leadership. “The legal framework supporting Arsjad’s role as Kadin’s Chairman remains unchanged,” he said.

Andi Gani also praised Rasjid for his efforts to enhance worker welfare, including initiatives related to vocational training and fostering direct dialogue with labor leaders to promote harmonious industrial relations.
