Bandung, Indonesia Sentinel — Tucked away in North Sulawesi, Likupang is emerging as one of Indonesia’s hidden gems, offering stunning natural beauty and untapped potential. While overshadowed by well-known destinations like Manado and Bunaken, Likupang claimed a spot as one of the country’s super priority tourism destinations, designated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf).

Located in North Minahasa Regency, Likupang boasts pristine beaches, rolling green hills, vibrant underwater ecosystems, and a rich culinary scene. With its natural assets and the designation as a Special Economic Zone (KEK), Likupang is positioned to become one of Indonesia’s top world-class tourism destinations.

Just 48 kilometers from Manado, Likupang offers a range of breathtaking views. For those looking to explore the region’s stunning landscapes, Likupang provide a range of fascinating hills. One of the highlights is Pulisan Hill, where eyes are greeted with the vast grasslands set against the backdrop of crystal-clear blue waters. While the trek to Pulisan Hill may be a bit challenging, the panoramic views that merge seamlessly with the ocean make the effort worthwhile.

Another hills hidden with magnificent view is the Larata Hill, a beautiful savanna that offers a peaceful landscape of rolling hills and sea views. Like Pulisan, Larata Hill provides a perfect setting for relaxation and soaking in Likupang’s natural serenity.

Move closer to the seas, Likupang offers pristine, untouched shores that are a dream come true for tranquility seekers. One of the standout beaches is Paal Beach, located in Marinsow Village, East Likupang District. Known for its exotic views and striking blue turquoise waters, Paal Beach is perfect for snorkeling, sunbathing, or simply unwinding by the ocean.

Likupang’s marine life also caught the world’s attention back in 2007 when the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and local residents discovered Green Sea Turtles nesting on Likupang Beach.

The area’s pristine waters make it ideal for underwater exploration, with several other beaches such as Pulisan Beach, Sampiran Beach, and Surabaya Beach add to Likupang’s allure for both locals and tourists.

Infrastructure Development

To support Likupang’s growing reputation as a tourism hotspot, Kemenparekraf is committed to boosting infrastructure in the area. Efforts are underway to improve key infrastructure, such as roads, clean water supply, and reliable electricity.

In addition, ongoing upgrades to Sam Ratulangi International Airport in Manado are expected to further enhance Likupang’s accessibility for both domestic and international travelers.

As Likupang continues to develop, it stands poised to offer an unparalleled blend of natural beauty, adventure, and relaxation, making it a must-visit destination for global tourists seeking a new tropical escape. With continued investment in infrastructure and sustainable tourism initiatives, Likupang is on track to become one of Indonesia’s premier destinations on the world stage.
