Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — In a shocking case that captured the attention of the public and trended widely on social media, Indonesian authorities from the Polda Metro Jaya Police have apprehended the suspect involved in the grisly murder of a headless woman found decapitated in North Jakarta’s Muara Baru area. The victim, identified as Sinta Handiyana, 40, was discovered in a chilling state that set off an intensive investigation and search for her killer.

The victim, found on October 29, 2024, was initially unidentified. Her headless body was recovered in a seaside development project site near Muara Baru Harbor, wrapped in foam, cloth, and plastic bags, her hands tied. Subsequent identification processes confirmed her identity, revealing that Sinta, a homemaker, resided in Curug, Tangerang.

According to a statement by Kombes Pol Ade Ary Syam Indradi, Polda Metro Jaya’s spokesperson, law enforcement acted swiftly to apprehend Fauzan Fahmi, the alleged perpetrator, who was a close friend of the victim and worked as a butcher. “The mutilation suspect has been apprehended,” confirmed Ade, highlighting the swift action taken by the police.

Fauzan, aged 43 and a professional butcher, reportedly used his butchering skills and tools in the brutal act. The suspect allegedly decapitated the victim using knives he typically used for slaughtering animals, disposing of her body in two separate locations. The torso was found in the project area, while the head was discovered nearly 600 meters away.

Upon his capture, Fauzan was photographed wearing a white T-shirt and jeans shorts, with his hands wrapped in plastic bags and a bandage on his right leg. He was taken into custody from his residence in North Jakarta by officers from Polda Metro Jaya’s Criminal Investigation Unit.

The case has shaken the public and prompted heightened attention from law enforcement. Director of General Criminal Investigation, Kombes Wira Satya, confirmed that investigations are underway to uncover the motive behind the murder and assess potential premeditated factors.

AKBP Rovan Richard Mahenu, Deputy Head of the Crime and Violence Subdirectorate, elaborated that police initiated the case following the discovery of the suspiciously wrapped body in a large bag by a local, Panjul, who quickly reported the find. The wrapped corpse was immediately transported to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for further examination and identification, where medical professionals confirmed the identity as Sinta.

Authorities continue to investigate the disturbing case, aiming to piece together the motive and actions of the suspect. This violent crime has reignited discussions on safety and violence prevention, underscoring the importance of community awareness and timely law enforcement responses.
