Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Indonesian Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) has officially appointed Simon Mantiri as the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), replacing Nicke Widyawati. The announcement, made during Pertamina’s General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) on November 4, 2024, included several leadership shifts across Pertamina’s executive board.

According to the official statement, Pertamina’s new board lineup now includes Mochamad Iriawan as Chief Commissioner, Dony Oskaria as Vice Chief Commissioner, Raden Adjeng Sondaryani as Independent Commissioner, and Simon Aloysius Mantiri as President Director. Pertamina’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, emphasized that appointing and replacing executives at state-owned companies like Pertamina is a matter governed by the Ministry of SOEs.

“Leadership changes are a standard, regulated process to ensure continuity and alignment with government priorities,” Fadjar stated.

Prior to his appointment as President Director, Simon Mantiri served as Pertamina’s Chief Commissioner for four months, a position he took over in June 2024 from Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, who resigned in February 2024. Mantiri’s selection comes amidst wider efforts by the Indonesian government to bolster Pertamina’s role in ensuring national energy resilience.

Simon Aloysius Mantiri has a background in both corporate and political spheres. He previously served as a senior board member of the Gerindra Party and as Deputy Treasurer on the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka National Campaign Team. Holding a degree from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) School of Business and Management, Mantiri brings financial expertise from his roles as Finance Director of PT Nusantara Energy and PT Agro Industri.

Originally from Kamasi Village, Tomohon in North Sulawesi, Mantiri is expected to bring both strategic and practical expertise to his new role at Pertamina, guiding Indonesia’s largest energy company toward national energy independence.
