Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Google Indonesia unveiled its Year in Search 2024 report, highlighting the country’s top search trends for the year. Bobby Kertanegara, the cat belonging to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, emerged as the trends as the most-searched keyword surpassing searches for the President Prabowo itself.
The Google Year in Search 2024 reflects the questions, interests, and cultural phenomena that resonated most with Indonesians. It also includes trending YouTube content and top-rated apps and games on Google Play.
“This year’s (2024) search trends reveal that Indonesians not only seek to understand the world around them but also showcase a strong appreciation for local art and culture,” said Feliciana Weinathan, Communications Manager at Google Indonesia, as reported by Media Indonesia.
Indonesia’s “Year in Search” Trends
The Year in Search report featured multiple categories, including Top Trends, Recipes, “What is” Questions, “Why” Questions, “Who” Questions, Song Lyrics, Movies and Series, and Sports.
In the “Who” category, the search query “whose cat is Bobby Kertanegara?” led the list, outperforming other prominent searches. In the Movies and Series category, How to Make Millions Before Your Grandma Dies took the top spot, beats phenomenal comedy movie Agak Laen.
For music enthusiasts, lyrics to APT by Rosé and Bruno Mars became the most-searched song lyrics, while Bernadya’s Satu Bulan and Untungnya Bumi Masih Berputar also made the trending list.
The “What is” category saw the term Khodam rise to the top on Google Search. “Why do we feel pain?” and recipes for Cromboloni were also highly searched. In sports, events like the Wheelchair Tennis Paralympics and 2024 National Games led the rankings.
YouTube Trends
Indonesians’ pride in local creativity took center stage on YouTube trends. The Indonesian national soccer team dominated search trends, thanks to their standout performances at international tournaments like the 2024 AFC Asian Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Creators actively uploaded match highlights, strategy analyses, and candid moments from players and coaches.
Local creators also captivated audiences by adapting global formats to suit Indonesian tastes, such as Clash of Champions and BYON Combat.

Additionally, Indonesia’s music scene flourished on YouTube, with DJ remixes gaining immense popularity on short-form video platforms.
A notable example was My Lecon by early-2000s Korean boyband JTL, which unexpectedly went viral after Indonesian DJ Prengky Gantay released a high-energy Jedag Jedug remix. The remix also made waves internationally, becoming the background track for South Korea’s KIA Tigers cheerleaders.
Google Play Trends
On Google Play, local applications and games gained significant recognition. ShopeePay was named Indonesia’s Best App of 2024 for its seamless financial transaction services, while DADOO – Board, Card, and Chaos won acclaim as the country’s best game, underscoring the growing potential of Indonesia’s gaming industry.
Google “Year in Search” 2024 shows that Google Search, YouTube, and Google Play continues to play a vital role in helping Indonesians find information, create, and share meaningful content both locally and globally. As digital connectivity accelerates in Indonesia, 2024 has demonstrated the increasing prominence of local content, cultural expression, and mobile technology in everyday life.
