Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia has achieved another milestone on the global stage, as the Rp50,000 banknote (2022 Emission Year) was ranked the second most secure currency in the world by BestBrokers, a leading financial analysis platform. This accomplishment highlights Indonesia’s commitment to innovation and financial security.

Rp50,000 World-Class Security Features

Among 39 currencies frequently used in global transactions, the Rp50,000 note stood out with its advanced security measures, incorporating 17 high-tech features designed to prevent counterfeiting.

“An incredible achievement for Indonesia! The Rp50,000 note from 2022 has been recognized as the second most secure currency globally by BestBrokers. This showcases our nation’s dedication to maintaining trust in our financial system,” Indonesia’s state-owned security printing company, Peruri, announced on Instagram, December 15, 2024.

Key security features include:

  • Watermarking: Provides visible security under light.
  • Magnetic Security Thread: Visible when illuminated.
  • Tactile Marks: Helps visually impaired individuals identify denominations.
  • Hidden Image: Visible only at certain angles.
  • Microprinting: Only detectable under magnification.

These measures not only enhance the physical integrity of the currency but also underscore the collaborative efforts of Bank Indonesia and Peruri in safeguarding the nation’s economy against counterfeiting threats.

Global Recognition and Public Reaction of Rp50,000

Peruri’s announcement also highlighted that the Rp50,000 note surpassed even the Euro and Pound Sterling in terms of security, further solidifying Indonesia’s reputation in financial innovation.

While many Indonesians expressed pride in this recognition, the news also sparked mixed reactions online.

“Alhamdulillah! Hopefully, denominations of Rp100,000, Rp20,000, and Rp10,000 will also receive similar security upgrades to eliminate counterfeit money,” wrote Instagram user @nhyati_21.

However, others pointed out room for improvement. User @aseppp6 remarked, “The quality is poor; it gets damaged quickly when wet.”

Strengthening Economic Confidence

Despite minor criticisms, this achievement reflects Indonesia’s growing influence in the global financial sector. The international acknowledgment of the Rp50,000 note not only reduces counterfeiting risks but also bolsters confidence in the nation’s monetary system.

“This recognition positions the Rp50,000 banknote as more secure than certain Euro and Pound Sterling denominations,” stated Peruri, emphasizing the importance of this accomplishment.

The success also symbolizes Indonesia’s broader progress in developing a trusted and innovative financial framework that meets international standards.

A Call to Preserve the Rupiah

Peruri concluded its announcement with a patriotic message, encouraging Indonesians to treat their national currency with care as a gesture of love for their country.

“Let us continue to protect and cherish our rupiah as a reflection of our pride in the homeland,” the statement read.
