Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — A Slovenian startup has introduced an unconventional innovation to the world of home security: a smart camera armed with paintball pellets. Called the Eve PaintCam, the company claims it to be the “World’s first paintball shooting security camera.”
As doorbell cameras and connected security systems have become commonplace, the Eve PaintCam offers a bold twist by adding an active deterrence mechanism. While most systems rely on passive surveillance, Eve’s PaintCam is designed to confront threats directly, combining an AI-driven tracking camera with a built-in paintball shooter.
The startup showcased its invention at CES 2025, following successful Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns. Acording to TechCrunch, the device features cutting-edge technology, including AI-based threat detection, automatic target tracking, and face recognition. The system identifies intruders and issues a warning before escalating to non-lethal paintball firing if the individual fails to retreat.
A Multi-Target Approach
The Eve PaintCam isn’t just for human intruders. It’s designed to address a range of security challenges, including deterring unwanted wildlife. The lineup includes three models for human-focused security—Eve, Eve+, and EvePro—as well as a camouflaged version called Simba, aimed at keeping animals at bay.
The camera offers various customization options, including pet detection, face recognition, and animal recognition. Users can configure the system to differentiate between familiar faces and unknown individuals, reducing the risk of false alarms or unintended injuries.
Specialized Paintball Ammunition
To enhance its effectiveness, the Eve PaintCam uses specialized projectiles, including capsaicin-infused rounds for a non-lethal but highly deterrent response and UV paintballs to help authorities track intruders. The company says these options are “legal in most countries” and tailored for specific needs, including wildlife management.
One standout feature is the marking projectile system, which provides an “extra layer of defense” by tagging intruders for easier police identification later. The system is designed to discourage repeat offenses, with the paintballs delivering enough sting to deter most trespassers.
Automation and User Control
Eve’s functionality extends beyond its active deterrence capabilities. The camera is equipped with standard security features, including remote access and autonomous operation in the event of an internet outage.

According to New Atlas, the system also allows for manual control. If an unfamiliar person is detected alongside a recognized visitor, the system sends a notification to the owner, enabling them to decide whether to intervene.
By combining advanced AI with a novel use of paintball technology, the Eve PaintCam aims to redefine home security with a proactive, non-lethal approach. Whether it will be embraced by consumers remains to be seen, but it certainly stands out as one of the most talked-about innovations in 2025.
