Dubai Unveils Plans for “Islands in the Sky,” a Floating Oasis 100 Meters Above Ground

Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), renowned for its eye-catching architectural marvels like the Burj Khalifa and its man-made islands, is now embarking on an ambitious new project: an islands towering above the city sky.

In collaboration with global wellness resort developer Therme Group, the UAE aims to redefine urban landscapes with its project the “Therme Dubai – Islands in the Sky”. Designed by the renowned architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), the futuristic structure will be located in Dubai’s Zabeel Park, adjacent to the Royal Palace.

Therme Group Founder stated that the project reflects Dubai’s vision of building a future centered on community well-being. “Dubai is a city that understands the future must be built with well-being at its core,” said Robert Hanea, founder and CEO of Therme Group, on Sunday (February 9), as reported by CNN Travel.

The structure of Dubai “Islands in the sky,” is designed to seamlessly blending nature with modern urban living. Set to rise 100 meters (328 feet) above the ground, the design envisions floating platforms, each functioning as an island with unique features.

The Dubai sky islands would features botanical gardens, cascading thermal pools infused with minerals, and cultural event spaces.

“Each island serves as a platform for thermal pools, decks, and vibrant indoor and outdoor vegetation, offering a distinct atmosphere while framing stunning views of the Dubai skyline,” said Elizabeth Diller, as reported by Mercusuar.co. “By day, the space fosters relaxation and contemplation, while at night, it transforms into a hub for music, artistic performances, and cultural events.”

Besides its grand designs, the Therme Group has also emphasized its sustainability, stating that the resort will recycle 90% of the water used in its thermal pools while 80% of its fresh air and cooling needs will be met through clean energy sources.

According to CNN, Dubai “Island in the Sky” constructions is set to begin in 2026, with completion projected for 2028. The development is expected to attract 1.7 million visitors annually.

Dubai Ambitious Project

Dubai’s skyline is no stranger to ambitious projects. In addition to Therme Dubai, the UAE is pressing forward with a series of strategic developments.

Construction is currently underway on The Burj Azizi, which is set to become the world’s second-tallest skyscraper upon completion in 2028. Standing at 725 meters (2,379 feet), the 131-story tower will house luxury apartments, a “seven-star” hotel, and a “vertical” shopping mall.

Developer Azizi Developments claims the skyscraper will break multiple records, including the world’s highest hotel lobby, the tallest nightclub, and the highest observation deck.

Meanwhile, Ciel Dubai Marina, slated to become the world’s tallest hotel, is expected to open later this year. The 365-meter (1,200-foot) skyscraper will feature more than 1,000 rooms and suites spread across 82 floors.

Dubai’s latest developments reinforce its reputation as a global hub for futuristic architecture, luxury living, and record-setting innovation.
