Jakarta – The construction of the National Data Center (PDN) in Cikarang, West Java Province and Batam, Riau Islands, has certainly started running and will be completed according to the target in 2024.

This was said by the Director General of Informatics Applications of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Dirjen Aptika Kominfo), Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (13/6/2023).

“We are targeting the government to have one data center. Currently, two areas are ready, Bekasi and Batam. The PDN in Cikarang Bekasi is expected to be inaugurated before October next year. Batam is currently in the tender process, and is planned to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025,” Semuel explained.

Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan explained that there are four PDN locations that have been determined, namely in Cikarang, Batam, the Capital City of the Nusantara (IKN), and Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara or NTT).

“In IKN and Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, we are still analyzing the location due to considerations about land readiness,” Semuel added.

According to him, the development of PDN is an effort to streamline the management of government data centers, which are currently scattered and number up to 2,700.

This happens because each government institution has prepared its own data center facilities, resulting in waste.

“We conducted an assessment. All agencies are competing to prepare computerization and digitization and finally prepare a server room, so the data center. Therefore, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology simplifies this system into one data center,” he explained.

The Ministry of Communication and Information is currently using the Temporary PDN in synergy with PT Telkom Indonesia (Telkom) until the project is fully completed.

The Temporary PDN has been used by 75 ministries and institutions, 20 provinces, 169 regencies and 59 cities.

Furthermore, Director General Semuel said that institutions and local governments that already have data centers can still use them, but they must be connected to the PDN system whose criteria are adjusted to the standards set by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology together with the National Cyber and Sandi Negara.

“It must still be connected to the PDN system that has been built so that we can achieve the integration of all data through Satu Data Indonesia, that those who need data no longer look for it scattered,” Semuel concluded.
