Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia welcomed 11.43 million foreign tourists between January and September 2025. The figure represents a 10.22% increase compared to the same period last year.
“From January to September 2025, the total number of foreign tourist arrivals reached 11.43 million, up 10.22% year-on-year,” said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics Pudji Ismartini in Jakarta on Monday (November 3).
During the Periode, tourist came with average spending per visitor reaching $1,297, or about Rp21.6 million, in the third quarter. The average expenditure per visit in the third quarter rose from the previous quarter’s $1,199, or about Rp20 million.
Accommodation accounted for the largest share of tourist spending at 37.31%, followed by food and beverages at 19.4%, shopping and souvenirs at 10.98%, and entertainment at 8.78%.
In September alone, Indonesia recorded 1.39 million foreign arrivals, up 9.04% year-on-year. Malaysia remained the top source of visitors at 19.53%, followed by Australia (11.72%) and Singapore (8.55%).

BPS also reported that the occupancy rate for star-rated hotels in Indonesia reached 50.16% in September 2025, with provinces such as Bali, South Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan recording occupancy rates above 53%.
Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Soekarno-Hatta Airport near Jakarta, and Batam continued to serve as the main gateways for international travelers.
Meanwhile, outbound travel by Indonesian nationals rose 5.25% year-on-year in September 2025, totaling 695,900 trips. Malaysia was the most popular destination for Indonesian travelers, accounting for 28.92% of outbound trips, followed by Saudi Arabia (18.77%) and Singapore (13.09%). Travel to China also showed a sharp increase, reaching 7.78%.
