Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — In the world of modern romance, slang terms continue to evolve, especially among Gen Z, who often coin unique phrases to describe relationship dynamics, emotions, or personality traits.

While some of these terms might sound unfamiliar, they have gained widespread popularity on social media platforms, particularly TikTok.

According to Wolipop, Here’s a breakdown of some trending Gen Z dating slang, from rizz to throning:

Rizz

The term ‘rizz’ comes from the word charisma and refers to someone’s ability to charm or impress others, particularly in romantic situations.

Example: “He’s got mad rizz; no wonder everyone falls for him.”

Someone with rizz typically exudes confidence, charm, and a natural magnetic appeal.

Exsaid

Exsaid expresses enthusiastic agreement or shared excitement in a romantic context. For example, if one partner expresses love or proposes a date plan, and the other eagerly agrees, they might respond with “exsaid!”

The term symbolizes mutual excitement and support in a relationship, capturing the energy of two people who are equally invested.

This positivity is often summarized in the phrase, “Exsaid + Exsaid = Forever.”

Situationship

A situationship refers to a relationship that exists somewhere between friendship and romance but lacks clarity or commitment.

Example: “We’ve been hanging out for months, but it’s still just a situationship.”

While situationships can be fun and casual, they often lead to confusion for those seeking emotional certainty.

Closure

In dating, closure signifies emotional resolution or a final conversation after a relationship ends. It helps individuals accept the reality of a breakup and move forward.

Example: “I need closure from him to fully move on.”

Closure can come from a final discussion with an ex or through personal introspection.

Beige Flag

A beige flag refers to a partner’s habit or trait that isn’t inherently bad but comes across as odd or uninspiring.

Example: “He talks to his stuffed animals at home, it’s a beige flag for me.”

The term emerged as a middle ground between red flags (warning signs) and green flags (positive signs) in relationships.

Throning: The Dating Trend Dominating Gen Z in 2024

Babygirl

Babygirl is an affectionate term often used for someone special in a relationship. It conveys a sense of tenderness and vulnerability and can be used for both men and women.

Example: “He’s such a babygirl, always looking for attention and care.”

The term can also be used playfully to highlight someone’s endearing, soft side.

Throning

The terms Throning describes the act of pursuing a relationship with someone of higher social status or influence to boost one’s own image.

In this context, the ‘throne’ represents the power or prestige associated with the individual being pursued.

These terms reflect how Gen Z continues to reshape romantic communication in the digital age, blending humor, creativity, and cultural trends into their dating vocabulary.
