Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — A hacker, known by the pseudonym Amadon, has discovered a method to bypass ChatGPT’s ethical guidelines, leading the AI system to generate instructions for creating explosive devices.
This exploit, referred to as “jailbreaking,” involves manipulating the chatbot’s programmed safeguards by framing queries within a fictional or game-like scenario.
As reported by TechCrunch on Friday, September 13, 2024, Amadon used a series of creative prompts to elicit responses from ChatGPT, leading to instructions that could potentially be used to create dangerous devices, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and “Claymore-style” explosives.
An explosives expert who reviewed the chatbot’s output confirmed the dangerous nature of the provided instructions. Amadon explained to TechCrunch that his motivation for the hack was rooted in the challenge of bypassing AI security, emphasizing the need for increased diligence in AI content moderation to prevent such exploits.

This incident raises serious concerns about the potential misuse of artificial intelligence and the security risks associated with AI jailbreaking. While OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has implemented numerous safety protocols, this case demonstrates the evolving challenge of maintaining these defenses in the face of determined hackers. As AI becomes increasingly sophisticated, the importance of ethical development and monitoring continues to grow.
