Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Pacitan Regency Government in East Java has officially announced plans to host the 2025 Horror Film Festival (FFH) from December 12 to 14.
Targeting participation from both students and the general public, the festival is expected to serve as a strategic platform to promote the region’s creative and cultural potential.
Pacitan Regent Indrata Nur Bayuaji reaffirmed his commitment to the event during a coordination meeting held at his official residence on Friday evening (Sept. 3, 2025). The discussion, attended by local filmmakers and representatives from the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF), emphasized the importance of ensuring tangible benefits for the community.
“What we need to highlight is that the festival must not only take place but also bring a positive impact to Pacitan,” said Indrata, who is popularly known as Mas Aji, in a statement posted on the local government’s Instagram account @prokopim.pacitan on Sunday (Oct. 5, 2025).
The 2025 Horror Film Festival, organized under the umbrella of JAFF, aims to become a new gateway for introducing Pacitan and its diverse local assets to a wider audience.

Indrata also underscored the importance of educating the public about the broader meaning of “horror.”
“The term horror needs to be widely reinterpreted, it’s not just about ghosts or the supernatural, but also about traditional culture and heritage that must be preserved,” he explained.
The preparation meeting, which also featured Arief Akhmad Yani, Community Forum Program Director at JAFF, marked the initial step toward organizing Pacitan’s first-ever film event.
The festival is expected to position Pacitan, known as the “70-Mile Sea Paradise”, as a new destination on Indonesia’s creative industry map, particularly in the field of cinema.
