Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia will send 10,000 tons of rice to Palestine as part of a humanitarian aid. The assistance is part of a broader agricultural cooperation initiative between Indonesia and Palestine.

The plan was announced by Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Agricultural sector with Palestinian Agriculture Minister Rezq Basheer-Salimia in Jakarta.

“This food aid is based on direct orders from President Prabowo Subianto,” Amran said in a press conference, as reported by Antara, Monday (July 7). “President Prabowo instructed us to deliver 10,000 tons of rice to our brothers and sisters in Palestine.”

The timing of the rice shipment will depend on logistical coordination with the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta. “We are ready to send the rice whenever the Palestinian ambassador requests it,” Amran added.

In addition to food aid, Indonesia plans to allocate between 10,000 and 20,000 hectares of farmland in South Sumatra and Kalimantan to be jointly managed with Palestinian authorities. The goal is to establish a sustainable food supply for Palestinians in the long term.

Amran emphasized that the move is a form of solidarity and support for Palestine’s food security and independence.

Palestinian Minister Rezq Basheer-Salimia expressed deep gratitude for Indonesia’s consistent support for the Palestinian cause, particularly through agricultural partnerships.

The cooperation framework includes training, knowledge and technology exchange, investment promotion, market access for Palestinian agricultural products, and food aid for Palestine especially in the Gaza region.

A Joint Agricultural Technical Committee will soon be established to coordinate concrete actions, involving both public institutions and private sector stakeholders from both countries.

Rezq underscored the significance of the partnership, especially as Israeli aggression continues to devastate Palestinian farmland and agricultural resources, not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

He states that International support, including from Indonesia, is critical to ensure that agriculture remains a pillar of livelihood, economic stability, and resilience for the Palestinian people.
