Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Resonanz Children’s Choir (TRCC) from Indonesia captivated international audiences with a vibrant performance at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, on Saturday (July 12). The choir performed at both the Indonesia Pavilion and the Festival Station Hall, showcasing a blend of rich cultural heritage and youthful creativity.

TRCC delivered a lively repertoire of Indonesian traditional songs, including Ondel-ondel from Betawi, Tak Tong Tong from West Sumatra, and Cublak-cublak Suweng from Central Java. The arrangements were crafted by acclaimed composers Fero Aldiansyah and Elwin Hendrijanto, who fused traditional melodies with contemporary musical elements.

In a nod to cultural exchange, the choir also performed Renai Circulation, a popular theme song from the anime series Bakemonogatari. The song served as a cultural bridge between Indonesia and Japan, particularly resonating with younger generations.

The musical direction behind the performance embraced the Expo’s central theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, by blending time-honored traditions with innovative artistic expression. The result was a dynamic show featuring polished vocal techniques and engaging choreography, earning enthusiastic applause from visitors.

Avip Priatna, founder and director of TRCC, emphasized the broader mission behind the performance. “This is more than just a concert—it carries a deep cultural message,” Avip said in an official statement on Sunday (July 13). “Through this choir, we want the world to see Indonesia—a place where cultural traditions remain vibrant and evolve through the creative spirit of our youth.”

The performance was supported by Indonesia Kaya, a cultural initiative that promotes Indonesian arts globally. “This event is a testament to the world-class talent of our young performers,” said Renitasari Adrian, Program Director at Indonesia Kaya. “We’re proud to help share the richness and beauty of Indonesian culture with a global audience.”

Before taking the stage at the Osaka Expo, TRCC also performed in a cultural exchange concert with Japan’s Kishiwada-city Boys and Girls Choir, delivering a 60-minute set that included classical and contemporary pieces such as Der Frühlingswing, Laudi alla Vergine Maria, and Popular from the Broadway musical Wicked.

Following their appearance in Japan, TRCC will travel to Hong Kong to perform at the World Choir Festival 2025, where they have been named one of only four Resident Choral Artists. The festival is hosted by the World Youth and Children’s Choral Artist Association (WYCCAA).
