Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia’s Supreme Court (MA) has announced a reshuffle of judicial personnel across the country, reassigning and promoting a total of 199 judges and 68 court clerks.
The large-scale reshuffle, approved during a Supreme Court leadership meeting on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, is being framed as part of a broader effort to revitalize the judiciary and curb corruption.
“This reshuffle is a form of refreshment within the judicial system,” said Chief Justice Sunarto in a video statement released Wednesday. “I hope this will inspire greater enthusiasm and improved performance from our judges and court staff.”
The move comes at a time when the credibility of Indonesia’s judicial system has been under intense scrutiny following recent allegations of bribery and illicit gratuities within the Central Jakarta District Court.
In his remarks, Chief Justice Sunarto stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of court services, calling on judicial staff to avoid any form of transactional behavior in the delivery of justice. “Let us steer clear of any transactional services provided by judicial staff or Supreme Court personnel,” he said.
According to official documents published on the Supreme Court’s website, the reshuffle includes a particularly high number of transfers involving judges based in Jakarta.
Of the 199 judges affected, 60 were reassigned from courts in the capital region. This includes 11 from the Central Jakarta District Court, 11 from West Jakarta, 12 from South Jakarta, 14 from East Jakarta, and 12 from North Jakarta.

The timing of the restructuring is notable, as it follows a string of corruption investigations targeting judges in Jakarta. The Supreme Court acknowledged that these incidents have damaged not only public trust but also the morale of the broader judicial community.
Meanwhile, the Court has promoted several younger judges with clean track records to key positions in Jakarta and other major cities.
With this reshuffle, Sunarto hope to reinforce professionalism and accountability across all levels of the judiciary. “Let us commit to working with sincerity, diligence, and intelligence,” Sunarto concluded.
