Jakarta Police Narcotics Director Dismissed Over Alleged Extortion Case at DWP Festival

Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Jakarta Metropolitan Police Narcotics Director, Commissioner Donald Parlaungan Simanjuntak, has been dismissed following allegations of extorting concertgoers at the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP).

The dismissal of Commissioner Donald Simanjuntak was decided after a Police Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct (KEPP) hearing on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

“The ethics hearing, which began at 11:00 AM on December 31 and concluded around 4:00 AM on January 1, 2025, resulted in a decision to dismiss the Narcotics Director,” said National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Commissioner M. Choirul Anam on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as reported by Kompas.

In addition to Commissioner Donald Simanjuntak, another middle-ranking police officer (Pamen) holding the position of unit head (Kanit) also received dishonorable discharge (PTDH). Meanwhile, a sub-directorate head (Kasubdit) has not yet received a final decision as their hearing was adjourned.

However, Anam did not disclose the names of the two other officers or their respective units. “The unit head has also been dishonorably discharged. As for the sub-directorate head, the hearing was adjourned and will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2024,” Anam said.

DWP Extortion Scandal

According to report from Antara, Indonesia’s Police Internal Affairs Division (Propam) has begun an ethics hearing on December 31 into police officers allegedly involved in extorting Malaysian nationals during the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) music festival held at JIExpo Kemayoran.

The hearings will be conducted simultaneously and continuously due to the large number of officers involved in the case. National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Commissioner Choirul Anam revealed that three police officers has underwent the ethics hearing related to the extortion allegations.

Previously, authorities have detained 18 police officers suspected of involvement in the extortion case. The officers are currently being held in a special detention facility pending further investigation.

The detain following investigation on allegations that police officers were involved in extorting concertgoers at the 2024 Djakarta Warehouse Project held at JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Police records indicate that 45 Malaysian nationals were victims of the alleged extortion scheme.

Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police, emphasized the force’s commitment to addressing misconduct. “We have taken firm action. The ethics hearings are being conducted continuously and are closely monitored by Kompolnas,” Trunoyudo said.
