Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Setyo Budiyanto has been appointed as a member of the Oversight Committee of the newly established state investment agency, Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara).

Setyo joins a lineup of top officials on the supervisory team, including the heads of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), the National Police Chief, and the Attorney General.

In response to concerns over potential conflicts of interest, KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto stated firmly that the agency’s participation in the committee would not compromise its integrity.

“KPK emphasizes that there will be no conflict of interest in its role within the Danantara oversight structure,” Tessa told reporters on Tuesday (April 8), as reported by Kumparan.

He added that all decisions made within the committee would not impact the anti-graft agency’s independence or objectivity in carrying out its core duties.

“The independence of KPK in law enforcement will remain intact. Should any legal issues arise involving Danantara, KPK will act professionally and objectively, prioritizing transparency and accountability without interference from any party, including members of the oversight committee,” Tessa stressed.

Tessa, a former KPK investigator, also stated that the agency will continue to evaluate its involvement in Danantara to ensure the effectiveness of its contribution and make necessary improvements.

With KPK’s inclusion in the committee, he encouraged public participation in monitoring Danantara’s performance in safeguarding Indonesia’s national development.

“Through collaboration with fellow members of the Oversight and Accountability Committee — including the heads of PPATK, BPK, BPKP, the National Police, and the Attorney General — KPK remains committed to supporting state reforms and development by supervising BPI Danantara professionally, with a focus on good governance,” Tessa said.

He clarified that the appointment of Setyo Budiyanto was institutional rather than personal, representing KPK as an organization rather than Setyo individually.

“The appointment of KPK as a member of the Danantara Oversight and Accountability Committee is directed to the institution as a whole — not to the personal capacity of its chairman,” he explained. “Therefore, any evaluations, recommendations, or feedback issued by KPK will reflect the agency’s collective stance.”

Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani emphasized that the agency is not only overseen by a supervisory board led by State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, but also monitored by a dedicated Risk Monitoring Commission, citing the massive scope of funds involved.

Rosan assured that with so many parties involved in oversight and monitoring, Danantara will operate transparently and will not be above the law. He also welcome public involvement in keeping the institution accountable.
