Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) raided the headquarters of Bank Indonesia (BI), including the governor’s office, on Monday night, December 16, as part of an investigation into alleged misuse of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.

KPK Spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto confirmed that the investigation team had conducted a search at the BI Office on Monday night. “Yes, the KPK team conducted a search at the BI office last night,” Tessa confirmed in a written statement on Tuesday December 17, as reported by Antara.

While KPK has confirmed the investigation, Tessa did not elaborate on any items or evidence seized during the search.

“Bank Indonesia received a visit from KPK investigators at our Jakarta headquarters on Dec. 16, 2024, as part of their investigation into alleged misuse of CSR funds distributed by BI,” Prakoso said on Tuesday.

He emphasized that Bank Indonesia respects and fully supports the ongoing legal process and will remain cooperative and comply with all applicable procedures and regulations.

Bank Indonesia CSR Funds Corrution

The investigation dates back to September when the KPK revealed potential irregularities in the use of CSR funds in Bank Indonesia, alleging that portions of the funds were misappropriated for personal gain.

KPK Director of Investigations Asep Guntur Rahayu explained on September 18. “The problem arises when CSR funds are not used as intended. For instance, if there is 100 [units] allocated for CSR, but only 50 are used properly, and the remaining 50 are misused, particularly for personal interests—that is what we are investigating,” Asep noted.

Asep confirmed that the case has moved to the investigation stage and that suspects have been identified, although the KPK has yet to disclose their names.

The raid on Bank Indonesia was part of KPK intensified efforts to root out corruption linked to the CSR program within the central bank, amid growing public and political scrutiny over accountability in public institutions.
