Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel – The number of viewers in 11 cities recorded a jump, from 59 percent on December 1, 2022 to 73 percent by January 1, 2023.

This is the result of the latest TV establishment survey by global private research company Nielsen in 11 cities, namely cities that have been affected by ASO; Greater Jakarta (Greater Jakarta), Bandung, Greater Yogyakarta, Semarang, Surakarta, and Greater Surabaya, and cities that have not been affected by ASO; Greater Denpasar, Medan, Makassar, Palembang, and Banjarmasin which were released on Saturday (31/12/2022).

“In 11 cities, DTT/Digital penetration rose from 59 percent as of December 1, 2022 to 73 percent as of January 1, 2023,” said the Nielsen survey.

In Greater Jakarta, the number of digital TV viewers recorded an increase from 70 percent on December 1, 2022 to 82 percent as of January 1, 2023,

In Bandung, the increase in DTT/Digital penetration was most significant, from 53 percent on December 1, 2022 to 82 percent on January 1, 2023.

In Greater Yogyakarta, the number of digital TV viewers recorded a significant increase from 54 percent on December 1, 2022 to 77 percent on January 1, 2023.

In Semarang, the increase in DTT/Digital penetration was also significant, from 54 percent on December 1, 2022 to 77 percent on January 1, 2023.

In Surakarta, digital TV viewership also jumped significantly, from 62 percent on December 1, 2022 to 87 percent on January 1, 2023.

In Greater Surabaya, although the number of DTT/Digital penetration increased significantly, it was still quite low in total, from 36 percent on December 1, 2022 to 53 percent on January 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, the largest number of digital TV viewers or population comes from Greater Jakarta, namely 28.9 million, followed by Greater Surabaya 5.1 million, Greater Jogjakarta 2.0 million, Bandung 1.9 million, Semarang 1.4 million, and Surakarta 418 thousand.

Meanwhile, DTT / Digital penetration in five cities not yet affected by ASO has not seen a significant increase, namely Greater Denpasar which still shows 53 percent, Medan 30 percent, Makassar 55 percent, Palembang 43 percent and Banjarmasin 44 percent.

Nielsen also revealed the composition of digital TV viewers by socio-economic class in 11 cities, which showed an increase in the middle and lower classes.

For the middle class, the number of digital TV viewers rose from 53 percent on December 21, 2022 to 56 percent on January 1, 2023.

Digital TV viewership from the lower class was recorded to rise from six percent on December 21, 2022 to eight percent on January 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, digital TV viewers from the upper economy were recorded to fall from 41 percent on December 21, 2022 to 36 percent on January 1, 2023, with total digital TV viewers rising from 39.1 million on December 21, 2022 to 46.7 million on January 1, 2023.

“With a significant increase in digital penetration in the six cities that have been affected by ASO, the composition of TV viewers based on Socio Economic Class is starting to balance close to the ‘normal’ curve where DTT / Digital growth comes from the middle class,” said the Nielsen survey.

Previously, the Director General of Public Information and Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Dirjen IKP Kominfo), Usman Kansong, stated that the Nielsen survey results showed public enthusiasm for the digital TV era.

“The increase in digital TV viewership as revealed by Nielsen shows the enthusiasm and readiness of the community to enter the digital TV era,” said Director General Usman.

He also responded positively to Nielsen’s survey results on Digital Ready penetration in the 11 cities. (Photo: Agus Siswanto/InfoPublik.id)
