Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The body of a 33-year-old male journalist identified by his initials, SW, was discovered late Friday night at the D’Paragon Kebon Jeruk Hotel in West Jakarta, in the latest incident involving the death of a media worker in Indonesia.
Police investigators confirmed the victim, originally from Palu, Central Sulawesi, was found unresponsive in his hotel room around 9 p.m. local time.
“We responded to the scene at around 9 p.m. after receiving a report. The body was found in his own room,” said West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Chief AKBP Arfan Zulkan Sipayung, as reporetd by Antara on Saturday (April 5).
SW’s body has since been transferred to the National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, where an autopsy is underway. Arfan stated that the family has consented to the examination.
While bruising was found on parts of the journalist’s body, police say there is currently no evidence of blunt force trauma or signs of foul play.
“There are bruises on the body, but none on the face. So far, there are no indications of assault or blunt object injuries. We’re waiting for the external autopsy results,” Arfan added.
Authorities have questioned three witnesses connected to the hotel as part of their ongoing investigation.

This case follows another incident in Indonesia, just weeks earlier in South Kalimantan where a 23-year-old female journalist was found dead. The victim, a member of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), worked for a local online news outlet in Banjarbaru.

Her body was discovered on March 22 near Mount Kupang in Cempaka district. The murder investigation led to the arrest of a Navy serviceman, Seaman First Class Jumran, who has been named as the primary suspect.
New details emerged during a reconstruction of the crime on Saturday, April 5, conducted by the Indonesian Navy’s Military Police Unit in Banjarbaru. The reenactment showed the suspect luring the victim into a vehicle before fatally choking her. According to authorities, the victim also struck her head on the car’s seatbelt during the struggle.
The investigation remains ongoing, with legal proceedings expected under Indonesia’s military and civilian justice systems.
