Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — OpenAI has announced that its artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT, can now connect directly to a range of third-party apps including Spotify and Canva, allowing users to access them without leaving the chat window.
The update was unveiled by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman during the company’s annual developer conference, DevDay 2025, marking a major shift in how people interact with the popular chatbot.
“This is about making ChatGPT the best way for people to grow, to become more productive, more creative, and to learn faster,” Altman said, as reported by TechCrunch.
The new feature, called Apps SDK, allows developers to integrate their software directly into ChatGPT’s interface, turning the chatbot into an interactive AI platform rather than just a conversational assistant.
According to Engadget, the SDK lets developers build and connect their own apps to ChatGPT. “Today we’re introducing a new generation of apps you can use directly inside ChatGPT. Developers can start building them now with Apps SDK, which is currently available in preview,” the company wrote on its official blog Monday (October 6).
At launch, users can already access Spotify, Canva, Coursera, Figma, and Zillow, with DoorDash, OpenTable, Target, and Uber expected to follow in the coming weeks.
The initiative builds on OpenAI’s earlier effort to create an app ecosystem around ChatGPT, following the debut of the GPT Store. Unlike a traditional app marketplace, however, the new system brings external applications directly into the chat experience.
When using a connected app for the first time, users will be prompted to link their existing accounts. Once linked, activating an app is as simple as typing its name into the conversation, for example, saying: “Spotify, make a playlist for a Friday night party.”
ChatGPT can then generate customized playlists based on mood, theme, or topic, which users can listen to directly on Spotify.

With Canva, users can request designs such as posters, social media graphics, or other visuals, all generated within the conversation. In a live demo, an OpenAI staff member showed ChatGPT creating a poster for a dog-walking business based on an earlier chat.
“This is still the early stage, so not all requests may be supported yet,” Spotify said in a statement. “But we’re continuing to refine the experience over the next several weeks and months.”
OpenAI also confirmed that developers will soon be able to submit their own apps for integration into ChatGPT. The company is preparing submission guidelines and a monetization framework to support future app creators.
With this update, ChatGPT evolves from a simple AI chatbot into a central hub for everyday digital tools, seamlessly blending productivity, creativity, and convenience within a single conversational interface.
